An exercise for 2019
Ground yourself in 2019 with the Ancient technique of Mula Bandha.
Mula Bandha is a Sanskrit for Root Lock. Mula means “root of a tree” and Bandha loosely translates to "lock." This exercise is a great way to balance and increase your internal energy, and when practiced regularly it can help maintain a calm and peaceful mind and balance your emotions.
Before starting the exercise, it is essential to locate the muscles that will be used. The pelvic floor is like a bowl, and this area is called the perineum. This is where the PC muscles are, and these are the muscles that you will be flexing. To locate them, as a woman, contract the muscles behind the cervix. If you are a man, contract the muscles between the anus and the testes.
Mula Bandha is best practiced while sitting crossed legged on the floor.
To perform this exercise:
1. Breathe in and fill the lungs, simultaneously contracting the PC muscles (pulling up the perineum towards the abdomen).
2. Imagine energy moving up the spine to the back of the head.
3. Pause your breath for 2-3 seconds.
4. Exhale the breath fully and relax for 2-3 seconds.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 (3-6 times before resting).
Notice: Mula Bandha must always be practiced while seated. Practice a maximum of 6 times and stay seated for several minutes after practice.
